Back to CA!

Wow, training was intense in Chicago! It was from 9 to 6 on Wednesday and Thursday, and 9 to 4 on Friday.  From what I could see at the meetings, I am comfortable with what the company stands for, so I think this will work out for me just fine.  It is such a great feeling to know that this is exactly where I want to be in my career.

The weather in Chicago reminded me of Seattle. It was chilly yet pleasant.  My trainer took time out ot drive us around in downtown and took us out to Iranian/Persian food called Reza.  Oh man, it was so yummy!  I stuffed myself on all that yummy goodness.  Speaking of Seattle, Nathan and I are planning to spend Christmas there.  Oh, I miss Seattle.  It might be hard to come back here once we are there.  Who knows, I guess we will see.  I hope I also get to go to Hong Kong sometime soon, since I really miss my family.

I gotta go, my cat, Cookie is trying to eat my cupcake.  Yikes!

AAAGGHGHH!!!!!!

I will be sent to Chicago next week for training!  I know I should be excited about being paid to go on a trip, but I am such a homebody that it is actually freaking me out a tiny bit.  I hope I get a roommate.  I am not too crazy about staying in a strange room all by myself.  Whatever the case, I can handle it.

I haven't been able to sit still ever since my journey of serial job searching.  6-8 hours of job search for 2 weeks have really taken a toll on my body.  I averaged about 5 hours of sleep for the past week and have been slowly gaining my shut-eye since I landed this job.  So, I went out and bought an herbal supplement yesterday called "Stress-eez".  It is all natural, and it helps calm the nerves and promote good sleep.  I took some last night, and perhaps it is the placebo effect, I felt more relaxed last night.  Sleep is good.

GOT CHANGE?

Well, so much has changed in my life in the past few months.....got my master's, got married, got 10lbs and lost 12 lbs due to stress, and got moved to California, got a job, but ain't got milk in the fridge.  Oh man!  We and the cats got down here alright.  We moved from Seattle in a Budget truck and a toll-dollie with my Honda attached to it and drove 1200 miles down here.  I can't quite believe we actually did it!  To be fair, I drove about 100 miles of it and Nate drove the other 1100.  The truth is that I fall asleep very quickly behind the wheel, and falling asleep with a 15 ft truck with my Honda attached to it is NOT a good thing.  We had our cats in a crate all sedated and sat in the front with us.  We spent a night in the hotel at Redding (half way between the Seattle and Claremont).  When we got to the hotel, we were starving (and so we thought!)  We ordered ribs, jo jos, spinach dip...the works!  Funny thing was we are so exhausted, neither one of us ate more than 2 bites and just wanted to collapse into bed.  So we brought about 5 lbs of left over to the room with us to take on the road as lunch for tomorrow.

Once we got to Claremont around 11pm the next night, we moved the mattresses into the apt, locked up the truck and just slept.  The next day was over 100 degrees, and it was too hot, period!  But we managed to move everything  into the apt in 4 hrs.  I have never sweated so much!  At some point I thought I was going to have a heat stroke.  On that same afternoon, we went to Ikea to pick  up a few things, that was fun.  We were really snappy at each other due to exhaustion and heat, but our mini fights never last beyond half an hour.

Believe it or not, we were completely unpacked by the end of the week.  Although this apt is a bit smaller than what we had, we feel so much more at home here than ever.  The kitchen is huge where we can actually fit a full size table at the end of it to eat in.  This apt is actually part of a building that only has 4 units total in it, and it is tucked in the residential/houses area, so we feel like we are actually living in a house.  It's quite cool!  Lucky we also have the AC during those over 100 degree days.

Nathan has started grad school since 2 weeks ago, and he is loving it.  I am just so glad to see him happy with what he is doing.  Me, on the other hand, have been job hunting like crazy....pretty much cold calling all the colleges in the area for jobs..."are you hiring ESL teachers?"  Out of the dark, I got to talking to the center director at ULV and was asked to apply for the Academic Director position.  I was like, "hmmm.....I really don't think I am qualified."  I sent her my resume anyway thinking that nothing will come of it.   A couple days later, she called me for an interview.  One week later (yesterday), I got the job!  This all sounds so much easier than what I have been going through with serial job interviews.  I went to 12 job interviews last week, got offered jobs, but not exactly what I wanted.  I can't believe I now have what I could haver never ever dreamed of.  The funnest thing about this position is that not only do I get to teach at times, I also get to contribute to curriculum development and learn more the administration side of things.  I hope I can handle it well.

BTW: I think Cillian Murphy is hot in 28 Days Later (yes, don't worry, Nate knows!)  If you are a horror buff, go see The Descent!  Very cool!

I am back!

Yes, the rumors are true....I am a married woman!  Sorry that I haven't written for so long.  I graduated with my Master's in TESOL on the 10th of June and got married on the 11th.  It was some crazy and good times!  The wedding went great....lots of love and care from family and friend, not to mention....nice gifts too.  We went to San Francisco for our honeymoon for 1 week and went to Claremont for another week to check out the place.  I am glad to report that we did secure a nice place to live that wouldn't cost us an arm and a leg.  Our photographer won't have pictures ready for us until the end of this month, so we'll just have to patient.  We are supposed to get the hard copies of the pictures as well as a CD and a website built by her.  Once I get the website, I will let you guys know the address if you are interested.

I am currently teaching an ESL class at Seattle Central Community College.  I really love teaching.  I think I have found the job the for me.  I hope you are all doing well.

Chao,

Carol
